Ciudad Juárez community funds dignified burial for elderly resident Don Modesto

Don Modesto, a 70‑year‑old resident of the Aztecas neighborhood in Ciudad Juárez, died after a period of isolation and the loss of close family members. Municipal authorities initially ordered that his remains be placed in a common grave.

Neighbors mobilized, raising 13,000 pesos through a public collection that included donations from residents of the nearby U.S. city of El Paso, Texas. The funds covered full funeral services, and an improvised ceremony was held on the porch of his home. Modesto's body was then transferred to San Rafael Cemetery for a dignified burial, avoiding the planned common‑grave interment.
