Ciudad Juárez faces extreme heat and hazardous air quality

Forecasts for Ciudad Juárez predict temperatures reaching 41‑42 °C on Friday, with clear to partly cloudy skies and moderate east winds. Local civil‑protection officials warned of a high risk of heat‑related illness and urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., wear light clothing and protect children, the elderly and pets.

At the same time, the National Air‑Quality Information System (SINAICA) recorded a very high‑risk air‑quality level, placing the city in the red category of the Air‑and‑Health Index. The poor air quality, combined with the extreme heat, increases the likelihood of health impacts, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, seniors and people with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. Authorities recommend remaining indoors, keeping windows closed when dust or smoke is present, and limiting physical exertion outdoors.

Both agencies continue to monitor conditions and advise the public to follow updates and precautionary measures while the heat wave and air‑quality alert persist.
