Ciudad Juárez infrastructure and security events impacted by heavy storms

In Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, recent heavy rainfall has tested local infrastructure and prompted various municipal responses. The Junta de Agua y Saneamiento de Juárez (JMAS) successfully operated the Presa Filtros II for the first time. The dam, which has a capacity of 385 million liters, helped regulate runoff and reduce flood risks for approximately 35,000 families.

However, the weather also impacted the inauguration of the Torre Centinela. A severe storm with intense wind gusts interrupted the ceremony, causing a large display screen to collapse and forcing officials and guests to seek shelter. Despite the logistical chaos and damage to personal belongings, no serious injuries were reported.

In separate service efforts, JMAS held a registration fair in the El Sauzal ejido, allowing residents to secure water and sewage contracts at a promotional rate of 500 pesos, significantly lower than the standard 2,000 pesos. Meanwhile, in Chimalhuacán, the local government launched the ‘Recicla-on’ program, an initiative to collect electronic waste in exchange for basic household goods to prevent environmental contamination.
