Puebla allocates 2.5 billion pesos for indigenous community justice

The Government of Puebla has announced an investment of 2.5 billion pesos to promote justice and welfare for indigenous, Afro-Mexican, and original communities. This funding is divided into 1.5 billion pesos through the Community Works Program and nearly 1 billion pesos from the Social Infrastructure Contributions Fund (FAISMUN), both of which are administered directly by the communities.

Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier emphasized that this initiative aligns with the national priority set by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to transform legal recognition of indigenous rights into concrete social justice. The program utilizes community participation mechanisms where local residents, including women serving as treasurers, determine priorities and manage resources.

Key infrastructure projects mentioned include the Puente de la Transformación over Lake Valsequillo, the rehabilitation of roads in the Iztaccíhuatl region, and the completion of the Interserrana highway. Additionally, the state is expanding higher education access through five University of Health campuses in regions such as Yaonáhuac and Izúcar de Matamoros. The government aims to increase the Community Works Program budget to 2 billion pesos by 2027.
