Ciudad Juárez launches 44th Festival de Teatro de la Ciudad

Mayor Héctor Rafael Ortiz Orpinel inaugurated the 44th edition of the Festival de Teatro de la Ciudad in Ciudad Juárez. The festival, organized by the Instituto para la Cultura del Municipio de Juárez (IPACULT), runs from 28 July to 2 August at the Auditorio Cívico Municipal Benito Juárez and features six productions by local theatre companies. The opening play, “Silvano, el rey de los vatos,” explores masculinity and father‑daughter relationships.

One of the highlighted performances, “¡Violencia!” by the local company Páramo 9, was written by Valeria Loera and directed by Rebeca Carrasco del Ángel. The production addressed love loss, loneliness and internal conflict through humor and magical‑realist elements, drawing a crowd of 680. Tickets cost 50 pesos, with all box‑office revenue returned to the participating companies. The municipal government, through IPACULT, continues to promote accessible cultural spaces for the community.
