Ciudad Juárez Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar Accuses Municipal President of Misusing Funds

Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, the licensed mayor of Ciudad Juárez, publicly accused municipal president Marco Bonilla of seeking financing for the Poniente 5 road project to benefit his political campaign rather than the public work. Pérez Cuéllar alleged that the city had overrun public spending, citing an alleged 300 million‑peso overprice on patrol vehicles, an extra 60 million pesos for lighting services in a single year, and more than 100 million pesos paid as interest, totaling roughly 500 million pesos that could have covered the 150 million‑peso project without additional borrowing.

In a separate statement, Pérez Cuéllar, also a Morena candidate for the 2027 Chihuahua gubernatorial race, said that Morena’s success should not rely on internal divisions within the opposition PAN. He said, “Veo que está pasando algo que puede haber alguna fractura… nosotros como Morena no debemos depender de lo que pase en otros partidos; debemos depender de nuestro trabajo, de nuestra unidad, de nuestro esfuerzo.”
