Ciudad Juárez officials consider removing neighborhood security gates
Authorities in Ciudad Juárez are considering the removal of security gates and fences installed in various neighborhoods and residential areas. César Omar Muñoz Morales, the Municipal Secretary of Public Security, stated that the city is currently in a position to remove these barriers, noting that they obstruct mobility and traffic flow. He emphasized that individual rights should not impede the rights of others.
Pedro Matus Peña, coordinator of the City Council's Social Development Commission, confirmed that the removal of controlled access points will be analyzed following citizen requests. He noted that the Constitution protects the right to free movement, making such closures legally questionable. The proposal will be reviewed during the update of the Neighborhood Committees Regulations, which has not been revised since 2007. The issue remains complex due to internal disagreements among residents regarding security fees and meeting attendance.
