Morena leaders set 2027 electoral strategy and alliance guidelines

During the VIII Ordinary Session of the Morena National Council, party leaders addressed internal selection processes and strategic alliances ahead of the 2026-2027 elections. Alfonso Durazo, President of the National Council, issued a warning to potential candidates, stating that high poll numbers achieved through paid media coverage rather than grassroots work do not necessarily serve the movement’s goals. He emphasized that popularity must be backed by commitment to the party's principles.

National President Ariadna Montiel reinforced these messages, highlighting the importance of maintaining the party’s identity as a ‘party-movement.’ She led a National Meeting of Social Movements involving over 70 organizations, including unions and community groups, to strengthen ties between the party and organized social sectors. The goal is to integrate social demands into public policy and ensure the movement remains connected to the people.

Additionally, the Council approved its alliance policy for upcoming elections, noting that while partnerships with the PT and Green Party are valued, Morena maintains the territorial strength to seek majorities independently. The session also included the swearing-in of 17 state coordinators who are viewed as potential candidates for governorships in 2027.
