Ciudad Juárez provides emergency water tanks as residents face supply cuts and high bills
The municipality of Ciudad Juárez is responding to acute water shortages affecting dozens of neighborhoods. In the colonia Hacienda de las Torres, residents have been without tap water while receiving bills of up to 569 pesos, prompting mayor Héctor Rafael Ortiz Orpinel to arrange the delivery of water trucks and temporary tinacos while investigations into the cause of the outage continue.
The city’s water and sanitation agency (JMAS) is also expanding relief efforts; more than 800 families in the Los Kilómetros area have already received tinacos for storing water, with daily distributions aimed at reaching a target of 3,000 units. The program, “Agua para Todos en Los Kilómetros, la Junta Contigo,” is part of Governor Maru Campos’ initiative to improve access to potable water for underserved communities.
