Ciudad Juárez faces heavy flooding and infrastructure damage from intense rains

Heavy rainfall and hail have caused significant flooding and material damage across Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Approximately 180 incidents were reported, with the majority concentrated in the city. The storms caused several vehicles to be swept away by currents, including a rescue of a family of ten, and impacted local infrastructure such as the IMSS Hospital General de Zona No. 6.

In response, the Mexican Army, Air Force, and National Guard deployed Plan DN-III-E, with 700 elements assisting in cleaning debris, mud, and rubble from homes and roads. The Municipal Government has initiated a census of affected families to determine necessary aid, while the Junta de Agua y Saneamiento (JMAS) deployed heavy machinery to clear the norponiente area and repair damaged water pipes.

Despite the widespread flooding in neighborhoods like Francisco Sarabia, Fronteriza, and Las Torres, authorities have reported no loss of human life. Additionally, the JMAS reported that local dams, including Puerto La Paz, Pico del Águila, and Filtro II, captured 717 million liters of rainwater, an 80 percent increase from September, which helped regulate runoff and mitigate some impacts.
