Ciudad Victoria schools move to online classes after electrical incidents

Educational institutions in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, have transitioned to online learning following electrical incidents at two local schools.

At Juan B. Tijerina Elementary School, more than 800 students are attending classes virtually after a transformer theft led to a power outage and a spill of hazardous liquid. The school remains closed as authorities, including Civil Protection and the Ministry of Education, conduct environmental assessments to ensure the safety of students and staff. A decision regarding a return to in-person classes is expected by September 9.

Separately, the Vicente Guerrero Kindergarten has moved 79 students to remote learning due to an electrical fire in a registration box. Officials clarified that this incident was caused by aging wiring rather than theft. Technical evaluations are underway to determine if the entire electrical system requires replacement.
