School closures in Ciudad Victoria due to electrical issues

Educational institutions in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, have transitioned to remote learning following electrical incidents at multiple schools.

At Juan B. Tejerina primary school, approximately 800 students moved to online classes after the theft of a transformer resulted in a power outage and a liquid spill on the premises. Subsecretary of Basic Education Nora Hilda de los Reyes Vázquez stated the decision was made to “prioritize the safety and integrity of students and staff.” Environmental agencies, including SEMARNAT and PROFEPA, are conducting assessments to determine the toxicity of the spilled liquid. Remediation efforts, which may include asphalt removal, depend on the results of a specialized study.

Additionally, the Vicente Guerrero Kindergarten moved 79 students to virtual learning following an electrical fire in a registration box. Officials attributed this specific incident to “aging wiring rather than theft.” Technical evaluations are currently underway to determine if the school's electrical system requires a full replacement.
