Montenegro firefighters demand wage increases and improved status
Firefighters in Montenegro’s central region have issued a formal demand for increased wages and improved professional status. The group, identified as ‘Vatrogasci srednje regije’, has petitioned the Prime Minister, the President, and the Parliament, warning of potential radicalized protests if their demands are not met.
Key demands include increasing the salary coefficient from 7.3 to at least 9.5, returning firefighters to a special pay grade, and ensuring legal regulations clearly define their rights and working conditions. The group emphasized that despite differences in official unions, there is a unified stance regarding their dignity and professional future.
Political support has emerged from the Civil Movement URA, with MP Zoran Mikić announcing an initiative to propose a legislative solution to address these issues. The group also noted the support of President Jakov Milatović regarding their grievances.
