Civita Castellana opposition urges mayor to halt waste‑landfill project

Ecocivita S.r.l. has filed a formal request to reopen the Conference of Services, which has been suspended since December, to obtain authorisation for a waste‑inert landfill, crushing plant and morphological recovery facility in the former San Silvestro quarry near Civita Castellana. Opposition councillors Claudio Parroccini, Simonetta Coletta and Giuseppe La Bella criticised the newly elected mayor, alleging that the administration will ease the way for private developers. They highlighted the site’s proximity—about 1.45 km—to the Sassacci primary school, potential traffic increases, and the risk to local agrarian and environmental protections in the Via Amerina biodistrict. The councillors also contested the provincial traffic‑impact study, which predicts a modest 3 % rise in heavy‑vehicle flow, arguing that regional legislation could be used to bypass stricter local controls. They called on the mayor to clarify his stance and to maintain the strict opposition stance established by the previous administration.
