CJNG leader faces US bounty while Mexican members receive 60‑year sentences
A Mexican federal court sentenced six members of the CJNG Delta 4 cell in Toluca to 60 years in prison for express kidnapping and vehicle theft. The defendants, identified as Arely Quetzal Estrada López, Jesús Omar Arellano Contreras, Carlos Eduardo Cedeño Jaimes, Luis Alan Hernández Martínez, Gustavo Aguilera Martínez and Ricardo Ismael Pacheco Cruz, were convicted for hijacking a motorcyclist, threatening him with a firearm, and stealing his vehicle in March 2025. The court also imposed fines of 565,700 pesos per offender.
Separately, the U.S. Department of State announced a $5 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Juan Carlos Valencia González, alias “03” or “el Pelón,” the newly identified leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel after the death of its former head, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes (“El Mencho”). Valencia González, a dual U.S.–Mexican national, is now the focus of a U.S. counter‑narcotics effort targeting the cartel’s leadership.
Both developments highlight intensified law‑enforcement actions against the CJNG in Mexico and increased U.S. involvement in apprehending its top figures.
