CJP protests over Election Commission demand resignation
Political tensions are escalating in India following protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP alleges irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, a process the BJP defends as a constitutional right intended to remove deceased or duplicate voters.
In response to planned demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, security has been tightened in cities like Patna, with the deployment of the Rapid Action Force and CRPF. NDA leaders have criticized the protests, accusing the opposition and CJP of attempting to create instability and chaos. Some officials have suggested that these activities may be influenced by foreign interests.
Conversely, leaders from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have condemned the government’s actions, describing the current atmosphere as an ‘undeclared emergency’ and accusing the central government of using power to suppress dissent and arrest protesters. The opposition maintains that the issues regarding voter list integrity are central to protecting democracy.
