Clarice Lispector's work inspires new film directed by women

The film ‘Rio de Clarice’ has premiered in cinemas, offering a new cinematic interpretation of the works of renowned writer Clarice Lispector. The production adapts five of her short stories into a single film, featuring a cast and crew composed entirely of women.

Nicole Allgranti, the great-niece of Lispector, is one of the key figures behind the project, serving as a screenwriter and adapting the story ‘A Bela e a Fera ou A Ferida Grande Demais’. Allgranti noted that the choice of this specific text holds personal and social significance, as it was one of the final pieces written by Lispector before her death in 1977.

The film is structured as a series of independent stories, each directed by a different Brazilian female filmmaker: Nicole Allgranti, Maria Luiza Aboim, Eunice Gutman, Taciana Oliveira, and Barbara Kahane. The project aims to explore the complexities of the human soul and the female experience through Lispector’s introspective lens.
