Classical music performances scheduled in Manaus

Manaus will host two distinct classical music events this week. On Thursday, October 22, the Teatro Amazonas will feature Dutch pianist Nikola Meeuwsen, the 2025 winner of the Queen Elisabeth International Competition. Performing as a soloist with the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra and the Amazonas Choir under the direction of Maestro José Soares, Meeuwsen will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor. The program also includes Mozart’s cantata “Davide Penitente”.

On Friday, October 23, the Orquestra Sinfônica da Amazônia (OSA) will present the third concert of its “Série Amazônia” at Teatro ICBEU. Conducted by Rubens Cláudio, the program aims to integrate Amazonian cultural references into the symphonic repertoire. The performance will include Igor Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella Suite”, Alexandre Caldi’s “Suíte Florestal”—which incorporates regional rhythms such as carimbó and boi-bumbá—and the symphonic poem “Uiara” by Amazonian composer and cellist Timóteo Esteves.
