Claudia Carrasquilla appointed Colombia's Vice Minister of Defense
Claudia Victoria Carrasquilla Minami, a former prosecutor and Medellín councilor for the Centro Democrático, will assume the post of Vice Minister for Policies of Defense and Security on 7 August 2024. Her resignation from the Medellín council was accepted with 15 votes in favor, clearing the way for her to join the incoming cabinet of President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella. Carrasquilla will serve under Defence Minister (retired General) Jorge Eduardo Mora López, bringing her experience in organized‑crime prosecution and citizen‑security to the ministry.
The appointment completes the security team of the new government, which is set to take office shortly after the presidential inauguration in Cali.
