Claudia Raia takes 'Tarsila, a Brasileira' musical on Brazil tour

Brazilian actress Claudia Raia, 59, is starring as modernist painter Tarsila do Amaral in the musical "Tarsila, a Brasileira." The production opened at Rio de Janeiro's Theatro Municipal on 1‑2 August and will later move to venues in São Paulo, Rio's Zona Sul, and other major capitals. The show, which Raia also produces, carries a payroll of roughly R$1 million per month.

In recent interviews Raia described the personal challenges of touring while caring for her three children. She travels with her youngest son, three‑year‑old Luca, and speaks about the emotional impact of the "empty‑nest" syndrome as her older children live in Rio and New York. The actress highlighted the difficulty of balancing a demanding stage schedule with family life, noting that the tour allows her to spend time with Luca while he is still small.
