Claudia Sheinbaum disputes FGR account of Chihuahua lab operation

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has offered a conflicting account regarding a law enforcement operation in El Pinal, Chihuahua, involving the alleged presence of U.S. intelligence agents. While the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) claims that an operation in April successfully dismantled a clandestine drug laboratory with the help of foreign agents, Sheinbaum stated that no laboratory was dismantled. According to the President, officials only visited the site to inspect it before returning.

The controversy centers on the arrest of former Chihuahua prosecutor César Jáuregui, who faces charges of treason and violations of the National Security Law. The FGR alleges that Jáuregui authorized the entry of U.S. agents into Mexican territory to perform tasks that fall exclusively under the jurisdiction of local law enforcement, without federal authorization.

The investigation follows a previous incident involving a car accident that resulted in the deaths of two CIA members in Mexico. A judicial hearing is scheduled to proceed with the FGR presenting evidence against Jáuregui.
