Claudio Saltarelli releases new work on Grazia Deledda

Claudio Saltarelli has released a two-volume tragedy titled ‘Oltre i Girasoli di cui non t’ho detto’ (published by BastogiLibri) that explores the lesser-known aspects of the life of Nobel Prize-winning author Grazia Deledda.

The work was presented at PalabancaEventi to coincide with the upcoming centenary of Deledda being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The first volume covers her youth in Sardinia, her artistic formation, and her early works, while the second volume details her maturity, marriage, family life, and eventual Nobel recognition.

Saltarelli describes Deledda’s life as a tragedy in itself, noting personal hardships including the death of her father—the only person who supported her unconventional pursuit of studies—and the loss of her grandmother and sister. The narrative also touches upon the social contradictions of the era, including themes of gender roles and the struggles of her brother, Santus.
