Claudio Tapia under investigation for alleged illicit enrichment

Argentine federal prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita has requested new investigative measures in an illicit enrichment case involving Claudio 'Chiqui' Tapia, the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA). The investigation, overseen by Judge Ariel Lijo, focuses on potential unjustified wealth increases since 2016, stemming from Tapia's role as a public official at CEAMSE.

Key elements of the probe include 37 deposits totaling approximately 1.5 million pesos made by the Truck Drivers' Union, led by Hugo Moyano, into a Banco Provincia account between 2016 and 2019. Prosecutors are seeking full payroll records and justifications for these payments, as Tapia reportedly only declared income from CEAMSE, CONMEBOL, and the AFA in his sworn statements.

Additionally, the prosecution has requested a diplomatic request to Switzerland to clarify three international transfers from FIFA totaling approximately $189,577. These payments, received between December 2018 and March 2020, were not included in Tapia's asset declarations. The investigation is also examining the financial activities and bank accounts of his ex-wife, Paola Moyano.
