Claudio Tapia under judicial investigation for alleged illicit enrichment
Federal Judge Ariel Lijo has ordered several measures to reconstruct the assets of Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), as part of an investigation into alleged illicit enrichment.
A key component of the investigation involves an international request to Switzerland, asking FIFA to clarify the purpose of three transfers totaling approximately US$189,577 made to Tapia between 2018 and 2020. The judge has also requested a detailed breakdown of all payments, fees, and per diems provided by FIFA to Tapia since 2016.
Additionally, the court is examining financial records related to the Truck Drivers' Union (Sindicato de Choferes de Camiones), specifically focusing on nearly 37 payments totaling over 1.4 million pesos made to Tapia between 2016 and 2019. The investigation also includes a request for AFA to report on the authorization and use of corporate credit cards issued in Tapia's name.
To further the inquiry, Judge Lijo has ordered the lifting of fiscal, banking, and stock market secrecy for Tapia’s ex-wife, Paola Moyano. The court is also seeking information regarding Tapia's vehicle registrations, including a BMW X4, and his sworn asset declarations filed between 2016 and 2022.
