ClearVue Technologies announces breakthrough in solar glass coating

Perth-based ClearVue Technologies has announced a manufacturing breakthrough regarding its Gen 3 Vision Glass, a building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) product. The company has successfully applied a low-emissivity (Low-E) metallic coating to the inner pane of its energy-generating glass units using a magnetron sputter-coating process.

This development allows the solar glass to meet the standard specifications required for most commercial building façades. By applying the coating to the room-facing side of the double-glazed unit, the technology can control solar heat gain while still generating more than 50 W of energy per square metre and maintaining up to 80% visible light transmittance.

ClearVue CEO Doug Hunt stated that this advancement removes a practical barrier for the industry, allowing energy-generating glass to be integrated into standard commercial design and manufacturing processes rather than being treated as a specialist product.
