Systems such as green joint solutions and urban green islands utilize concrete and natural stone to create surfaces that absorb rainwater, improve local microclimates, and increase environmental resilience.
These green joint systems follow the ‘sponge city’ principle, allowing rainwater to be stored in open joints, evaporate, or seep into the ground. This approach helps mitigate heat in paved areas like driveways, parking spaces, and public squares. Different joint ratios allow for varied functionality, such as using non-green joints for footpaths and higher green ratios for parking areas.
Additionally, modern green roof systems are transforming previously sterile surfaces, such as garage or carport roofs, into living biotopes. These modular systems help manage urban sealing issues by absorbing sunlight, reducing ambient temperatures through evaporative cooling, and providing habitats for pollinators like bees and butterflies.
