Clinical trials show progress in metastatic cancer treatments

Updated results from the phase 3 HERIZON-GEA-01 trial indicate that zanidatamab combined with chemotherapy significantly improves overall survival for patients with previously untreated HER2-positive metastatic gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma. Compared to trastuzumab plus chemotherapy, the zanidatamab regimen reduced the risk of death by 24%. The study also noted that adding tislelizumab may provide additional survival benefits, though these results require further evaluation.

In the field of metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), medical experts are evaluating the use of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). Recent developments include the FDA approval of sacituzumab govitecan as a first-line option, both as a monotherapy and in combination with pembrolizumab for specific patients. Additionally, datopotamab deruxtecan has emerged as a significant treatment option based on data from the TROPION-Breast02 trial.
