Clothing brands adopt repair services to attract Gen Z consumers
Major clothing retailers, including Levi Strauss & Co., Uniqlo, and Primark, are increasingly offering in-store repair services and sewing workshops to attract Generation Z consumers. This shift aims to appeal to younger shoppers who prioritize sustainability and cost-saving by extending the life of their garments.
Levi Strauss & Co. has launched the ‘Wear Longer’ program, which includes handstitching courses for high school students to teach essential skills such as hemming, patching holes, and sewing on buttons. While luxury brands and companies like Patagonia have long offered repair services, the trend is now moving into the mainstream retail sector as brands attempt to align with the ‘fix it, don’t ditch it’ mindset of environmentally conscious consumers.
