Cloudflare launches Basin serverless data platform
Cloudflare has announced the general availability of Cloudflare Basin, a serverless data platform designed to simplify data collection, storage, and analysis. The platform, which includes Basin Pipelines, Basin Catalog, and Basin SQL, is built on Apache Iceberg and Cloudflare R2.
Designed to reduce the need for dedicated data engineering infrastructure, Basin allows developers to ingest and query data without managing clusters or provisioning servers. A key feature of the platform is the absence of data transfer or egress fees, allowing data to move freely across different clouds, platforms, or regions. By utilizing the open-standard Apache Iceberg format, the platform aims to prevent vendor lock-in, enabling compatibility with external query engines such as Snowflake, Spark, DuckDB, and Trino.
