Cloudflare launches open-source Forge tool and agentic cf CLI

Cloudflare has announced the release of Forge, an open-source tool designed to automatically generate SDKs, command-line interfaces (CLIs), and documentation from API definitions. Released under an Apache 2.0 license, Forge allows users to run and modify the tool privately. The project is in its early stages and will eventually support Cloudflare’s unified command-line interface, cf.

This move follows similar actions by Google, which recently partnered with Speakeasy to open-source its OpenAPI code-generation suite. Google’s decision was prompted by the acquisition of its previous provider, Stainless, by Anthropic, which resulted in the sudden shutdown of its SDK-generation service. Google noted that such disruptions highlight the platform risks associated with proprietary, closed-source generators.

In conjunction with these developments, Cloudflare is introducing the cf CLI, an agentic command-line interface designed to provide software agents with access to the entire Cloudflare API. As agent-driven usage of developer tools has increased significantly, the cf CLI aims to offer more comprehensive coverage than previous tools by utilizing JSON as a default interface and incorporating TypeScript-based configuration for improved accuracy.
