Cloudflare developer toolset expansion

Overview

Cloudflare has initiated the release of new developer tools, beginning with the announcement of Forge, an open-source tool for automatically generating SDKs, documentation, and command-line interfaces from API definitions. This release follows industry trends toward open-sourcing code-generation suites to mitigate platform risks associated with proprietary services.

Following this, Cloudflare introduced the ‘cf’ command-line interface (CLI) in open beta. Designed to eventually replace Wrangler, the new CLI supports approximately 3,000 API operations, a significant increase from the 280 operations available in Wrangler. The tool is open source, utilizes JSON by default, and features a natural language search capability. It also incorporates a TypeScript-based configuration file and integrates Vite as its default development server.

Additionally, Cloudflare updated its Quick Tunnels service, which enables developers to publish local servers to a ‘trycloudflare.com’ address without an account. The update includes a new security feature allowing users to restrict access to specific email addresses.
