Club Atlético Lanús: 12-year-old injured by falling football goal

A 12-year-old student is in serious condition after a football goal collapsed on his head at the Club Atlético Lanús sports complex in Argentina. The incident occurred on a cement court near the institution's kindergarten.

The child suffered a severe encephalocraneal trauma and has undergone three surgical procedures. He is currently hospitalized at Sanatorio Güemes in Buenos Aires, where he is reported to be stable and lucid but remains under medical observation with hemiparesis.

Judicial authorities from the Unidad Funcional de Instrucción N° 6 of Avellaneda-Lanús have opened an investigation into the incident, classifying it as “lesiones culposas” (negligent injury). The investigation aims to determine if safety protocols were followed and if the structure was properly anchored to the ground.

Parents and club members have filed a formal complaint against the club's leadership, including President Nicolás Russo, alleging failures in facility maintenance and a lack of emergency medical protocols. They have called for urgent technical reviews of all sporting structures, citing provincial safety regulations such as Ley Joaquín, which mandates specific anchoring requirements for sports goals.
