Club Brugge chairman eyes FIFA Club World Cup opportunities

Club Brugge chairman Bart Verhaeghe has expressed ambition regarding the potential expansion of the FIFA Club World Cup. As FIFA considers increasing the tournament from 32 participants to 48 for the 2029 edition, Verhaeghe suggests that Belgian clubs could find opportunities on the global stage.

Verhaeghe emphasized the need for a balanced football pyramid, stating that such tournaments should not exclusively benefit the largest clubs. He noted, “It is not the same for everyone and it is not everything for the big clubs,” arguing that international football must be viewed as a cohesive whole.
