CME Group to Launch Tesla and SpaceX Futures Contracts on July 27

CME Group announced that it will introduce single‑stock futures for Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX (SPCX) on July 27, subject to regulatory approval. The launch will include 55 standard‑sized contracts and 22 micro‑sized contracts, all financially settled, and is part of a broader rollout covering more than 50 major U.S. equities such as Nvidia, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet and Meta.

SpaceX, which completed the largest IPO in history on June 12, will trade under the ticker SPCX with an estimated market valuation of $1.75‑$1.80 trillion. CME’s entry into the market follows decentralized platforms that have already offered synthetic leveraged exposure to SpaceX, with open interest exceeding $250 million.

The new futures are intended to give institutional investors a capital‑efficient way to hedge or take leveraged positions on individual stocks. The micro contracts lower the entry barrier for smaller investors, mirroring CME’s earlier success with micro Bitcoin and Ether futures. Analysts expect the products could increase short‑term volatility in the underlying stocks as leveraged trading and short‑selling become more accessible.
