CNA survey: Rising energy costs impact 76% of small businesses

A survey conducted by CNA titled ‘Energy and Small Businesses’ reveals that energy costs and volatility have become structural challenges for micro and small enterprises. Approximately 76.5% of surveyed businesses reported an increase in energy expenditure over the last six months. Among those facing hikes, 45.8% reported increases between 10% and 20%, while 19.1% reported increases exceeding 20%.

The rising costs are significantly impacting business operations, with 84% of companies stating that energy costs have a relevant impact on their activity. This has led to a reduction in profit margins for 56.8% of businesses. Only 20.4% of companies have been able to partially transfer these increased costs to their customers through higher prices.

Geopolitical tensions remain a major concern, with 78.2% of businesses worried about their impact on energy markets. The survey suggests that the energy crisis is no longer a temporary emergency but a persistent issue that drains resources intended for investment, innovation, and job creation.
