CNAIR begins installing TollRo smart cameras for distance-based road taxing
CNAIR has begun installing intelligent cameras as part of the new TollRo system, which will change how heavy goods vehicles pay road taxes. Under this new mechanism, transport operators will pay based on the actual number of kilometers traveled rather than traditional methods.
The new equipment, recently spotted on DN 1 near Bărcănești and the Ploiești ring road, includes high-performance flat cameras with dual lenses and infrared filming systems. These devices are designed to identify license plates and monitor traffic continuously to determine the distance traveled between declared starting points and monitoring stations.
The transition to the TollRo system and the implementation of these new tariffs are expected to be fully effective by 2026.
