Brazil: Institutions react to Lula and Alckmin election victory

Following the confirmation of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Geraldo Alckmin as the elected president and vice-president of Brazil, major national institutions have issued formal responses.

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) released a statement congratulating the winners while emphasizing the need for national pacification and respect for democratic institutions. The CNBB urged the new administration to prioritize the needs of the poor and vulnerable, advocating for policies that ensure human dignity, social justice, and access to essential services such as health, education, and housing. The religious entity also called for a rejection of political polarization, violence, and disinformation.

Simultaneously, the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) congratulated the elected ticket and reaffirmed the banking sector's role as a catalyst for economic activity. Febraban president Leandro Vilain stated that the sector remains committed to supporting national development and offered its technical expertise to the president-elect and his economic team to assist in social and economic promotion.
