Newton Ramos: TRF-1 judge targeted in CNJ operation
The National Council of Justice (CNJ), supported by the Federal Police, conducted an extraordinary inspection at the office of TRF-1 judge Newton Ramos Neto on September 24. The operation follows investigations into Ramos's conduct regarding judicial processes involving the sugar sector and Banco Master.
Evidence from the phone of former banker Daniel Vorcaro identifies Ramos as part of a group referred to as 'Turma do KN', an expression linked to Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Kassio Nunes Marques. Ramos previously served as an assistant judge to Nunes Marques between 2018 and 2020. Investigations also highlight a contract between Banco Master and the law firm of Camilla Ramos, the judge's wife, which could yield up to R$ 427 million in success fees related to sugar sector lawsuits.
Additionally, the CNJ recently ordered the cancellation of 16 sugar sector precatórios totaling R$ 4.7 billion following a request from the Attorney General's Office (AGU). Ramos has maintained his position and stated that the inspection is a 'natural and regular' procedure. Minister Nunes Marques has denied any unauthorized communication with Vorcaro.
