CNR highlights polar research and climate regulation
The MarcopoloTv program Le Meraviglie del Possibile recently featured a discussion on Italian scientific research, specifically focusing on polar sciences. Giuliana Panieri, director of the CNR Institute of Polar Sciences, emphasized that polar regions, including the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Himalayan Third Pole, act as major global climate regulators. She noted that changes in these areas directly impact the global future.
The broadcast also reviewed the first National Polar Conference held in Rome from October 5 to 7, 2026. The event brought together over 200 participants, including scientists, institutions, and researchers, coordinated by the National Research Council (CNR) in collaboration with ENEA, INGV, and OGS.
Additionally, the program featured a connection to the Dirigibile Italia Arctic Base in the Svalbard islands, Norway. Researcher Chiara Ripa discussed ongoing field activities, such as atmospheric and marine monitoring and snow cover studies.
