Nanaimo: One man dead after truck incident at gas bar
A man has died following a motor vehicle incident in the parking lot of a Co-op gas bar on Victoria Crescent in downtown Nanaimo. The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, September 16, at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Witnesses reported hearing a fuel truck backing up toward gas pumps while the driver sounded his horn. A black car was also observed honking at the truck and exchanging words with the driver before the incident. Local reports suggest the deceased may have been an unhoused person.
The Nanaimo RCMP confirmed the death and stated that the investigation is in its early stages. Victoria Crescent was temporarily closed to traffic following the event but has since reopened, though police have urged motorists to seek alternate routes.
