Coahuila Electoral Tribunal reinstates Fernando Rodríguez González as deputy

The Electoral Tribunal of Coahuila has ruled unanimously that Fernando Rodríguez González must be guaranteed his seat in the state congress. The decision requires Antonio ‘Tony’ Flores Guerra to vacate his position for at least the remainder of the current Permanent Deputation period.

The dispute originated on June 9, when the Governing Board of the Coahuila Congress determined that Flores Guerra, a representative of the Labor Party (PT), had accumulated four consecutive unjustified absences while engaged in reelection campaign activities. Under Article 51 of the Political Constitution of Coahuila, deputies who miss three consecutive sessions without justification must be replaced by their alternates.

While Rodríguez González had initially taken office and participated in legislative work, the tribunal found that his ability to exercise the role was subsequently restricted. The court noted that his summons to parliamentary activities was halted and his salary and benefits were suspended. The ruling aims to restore the political-electoral rights of Rodríguez González.
