Mexico social welfare and infrastructure programs see major investment

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and state officials have highlighted significant advancements in social welfare and infrastructure. In Coahuila, Sheinbaum reported that nearly 885,000 residents receive social support, representing an investment of over 19 billion pesos. Key infrastructure projects mentioned include the construction of the Mexico City-Saltillo-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo passenger train, the expansion of Highway 57, and the development of new hospitals and over 78,000 homes for low-income families.

In the state of Coahuila, Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas announced the distribution of 10,000-peso scholarships for thousands of people with disabilities through the ‘Veamos la Discapacidad’ program, part of a 300-million-peso state investment. Additionally, the Baja California government has opened registration for the JOBEC scholarship program, offering 2,000 pesos for high school students and 2,500 pesos for university students to support educational continuity.

Nationally, the Ministry of Welfare projects that by the end of 2026, 42.8 million Mexicans will benefit from various welfare programs, with a total social investment of 1 trillion pesos. These programs include pensions for seniors, disability support, and various educational and health-related initiatives.
