Coahuila Remains Free of Human Myiasis Cases Amid National Surge

Coahuila's health authorities confirmed that the state remains free of human myiasis (infestation by Cochliomyia hominivorax larvae). No suspected or confirmed human cases have been reported, though two dogs in the municipality of Arteaga were found with larvae, prompting veterinary follow‑up.

National health data show 295 myiasis cases and two deaths across 21 Mexican states as of early June. In response, Coahuila's health secretariat and the Secretariat of Rural Development have set up joint worktables, deployed zoonosis brigades to monitor pets, and mobilized agricultural technicians to protect livestock. Training programs for pet owners and cattle producers emphasize wound hygiene and regular wound care as the primary preventive measure.
