Coahuila reports 38 screwworm cases, including two in Monclova

The state of Coahuila, Mexico, has reported 38 confirmed cases of the screwworm (gusano barrenador), including two cases in the municipality of Monclova. The outbreak has affected various species, including cattle, dogs, horses, pigs, sheep, and goats.

Nationally, Senasica reports a total of 2,011 cases in Mexico. This includes 845 cases in cattle and 769 in dogs. In Coahuila, the cases are concentrated in the Central Region, with specific records in Monclova, Lamadrid, Nadadores, and Cuatro Ciénegas.

To contain the spread, authorities are preparing a new phase of preventive measures in the Central Region. Luis Gutiérrez, Director of Economic Development in Monclova, noted that because many treatments applied in June and July are losing their effectiveness, it is urgent to renew medication applications. Brigades from Senasica and the Unión Ganadera Regional de Coahuila are working to provide specialized treatments to protect livestock and domestic animals.
