Coahuitlán mayor sought by authorities after festival shooting

Authorities in Veracruz are searching for Isaac García Álvarez, the mayor of Coahuitlán, following allegations that he fired a weapon during a patron saint festival in Chumatlán. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 12, during celebrations for the Virgin of the Nativity.

Witnesses at the event reportedly identified the mayor as the person responsible for the gunfire, which caused panic among families attending the festivities. The shooting resulted in four injuries, including a minor and a municipal police officer. The injured minor is currently receiving medical attention and is reported to be out of danger.

Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle García stated that the mayor must answer to the State Attorney General's Office (Fiscalía General del Estado) regarding the accusations. She emphasized that municipal leaders have a responsibility to ensure public safety rather than endangering it.
