Coalition reaffirms support for Yemeni government amid Houthi military pressure

The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen has reaffirmed its commitment to providing full operational support to the Yemeni government and armed forces. The goal is to restore state institutions and end Houthi control. Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki accused the Houthi militia of severe human rights violations, including internal blockades, forced displacement, the weaponization of hunger, and child recruitment.

Al-Maliki also addressed regional security, stating that Houthi attempts to target Saudi Arabian territory—including cities like Riyadh and holy sites in Mecca and Medina—and threats to maritime shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait necessitate continued defensive and deterrent measures. He dismissed recent Houthi claims of attacking Riyadh as misleading attempts to distract from significant military losses.

This renewed coalition stance coincides with Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi announcing comprehensive military operations to reclaim territory. Recent reports indicate the Houthi militia has suffered heavy losses, including approximately 5,000 fighters in one week, amid intensive Yemeni military operations across various fronts, including Taiz.
