Italy law enforcement intensifies summer coastal security operations

Italian law enforcement agencies have launched extensive summer operations across various coastal regions to ensure public safety, combat illegal labor, and prevent fraud.

In Bari, the Guardia di Finanza dismantled an organized system of labor exploitation targeting seasonal workers, such as lifeguards. Investigators found that workers were forced to return portions of their wages in cash, with effective hourly rates as low as 2 to 5 euros. Four individuals, including a labor consultant, face charges of criminal association for labor exploitation.

In San Vito Lo Capo, authorities seized over 17,000 counterfeit and non-compliant items. This included approximately 1,400 products bearing unauthorized brands like ‘Ferrari’ and ‘Milan’, alongside 16,000 pieces of jewelry lacking mandatory consumer information.

Maritime and beach security remains a priority. The Coast Guard has conducted numerous inspections in Porto Santo Stefano, Licata, and Porto Garibaldi, issuing fines for speeding near shorelines, unauthorized camping, and illegal fires. In Ladispoli, inter-agency operations targeted beach decorum and unauthorized overnight stays. Additionally, in Calabria, inspections revealed illegal employment and the sale of untraceable seafood, while in Trapani, patrols were intensified to prevent forest fires.
