Coast Guard sailor killed in A2 motorway accident

A 23-year-old Coast Guard sailor, Marco Curia, died following a violent multi-vehicle collision on the A2 del Mediterraneo motorway near Lagonegro. The accident occurred shortly after midnight at kilometer 130+200 on the northbound carriageway.

Curia, a First Class Sailor originally from Corigliano-Rossano, was serving at the maritime district office of San Marco di Castellabate. He was driving one of two cars involved in the crash against a heavy goods vehicle. While the driver of the truck was uninjured and a passenger in the second car was treated for minor injuries and discharged, emergency services were unable to save Curia.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Lagonegro has opened an investigation into the incident and ordered the seizure of all vehicles involved. Local authorities and the Coast Guard have expressed deep condolences for the loss of the young serviceman.
