Coast Guard suspends search for medical jet crash near Nantucket

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a medical transport jet and six people missing near Nantucket. The aircraft, a Gulfstream G-100, departed from L. F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda for Boston Logan International Airport early Saturday morning.

FlightAware data indicated the plane was flying at 24,000 feet for over an hour before plunging 13,000 feet in approximately two minutes. Debris from the aircraft was discovered off the coast of Nantucket, an island in Massachusetts.

Latitude Air Ambulance, the provider for the flight, stated that the six individuals on board—comprising four team members, one patient, and one family escort—are presumed dead. The company indicated it will cooperate with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to investigate the cause of the crash and assist with recovery efforts.
