Medical jet crash off Nantucket coast

Overview

A medical transport jet, a Gulfstream G100 operated by the Canadian company Latitude Air Ambulance, crashed off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, while traveling from Bermuda to Boston.

Flight tracking data showed the aircraft experienced a rapid descent from approximately 24,000 feet to 11,000 feet shortly before contact was lost. Prior to the disappearance, the pilot had reportedly declared an emergency due to electrical issues, and the aircraft may have encountered a storm.

Following a 66-hour search operation covering more than 4,400 miles, the U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search after a debris field was located in waters roughly 80 to 90 feet deep. The six individuals on board—two pilots, two medical staff, a patient, and a relative—are presumed dead.

The U.S. Coast Guard has identified the victims. The passengers include four Canadians—Philip Gregory Childerhose, Thomas Henry Farquhar, Sarah Jane Paton, and Jolene Beth Weir—and two Bermudian nationals, Marilyn Lavonne Bean and Sergio Wayne Lottimore. Bermuda police identified Bean and Lottimore as a mother and son.

Latitude Air Ambulance stated its staff is facing the “heartbreaking reality” of the situation and will cooperate with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to investigate the cause of the crash.
